Name: Paprika (no last name given in canon, assumedly it's Chiba, but it's never stated in the movie proper) Series/Anime/Manga: Paprika (2006 film) Age: 18 Job: College Sophomore, majoring in Psychology/Informant to Fox Mulder Personality: Paprika is very open with her emotions- the saying "wearing her heart on her sleeve" fits her very well- she's usually upbeat and content with things, but she can also have a sarcastic and goading side to her, especially when dealing with her 'partner', Atsuko Chiba. Sexuality: Hetrosexual. Background: Paprika was born from the mind of Atsuko Chiba, a famous scientist who worked with a research group in Japan studying dreams and their psychological effects on people. After years of work, an item called the DC-Mini was created. These devices, when programmed correctly, would allow people to participate in dreams at the same time as well as retain full memories of what happened during the dream. This turned out to be an enormous milestone in technology and psychological advancement, and Chiba's team recieved a lot of recognition and praise for their hard work. To distinguish between her work personality (a stand-offish scientist, who usually said the bare minimum to people outside of the research team) and her dream exploration personality, Atsuko developed the personality of an outgoing and easily readable eighteen year old girl, who she named "Paprika", after the spice of the same name. Paprika, being mainly a dream figment, posessed the ability to take on different apperances according to what dream she's in (for example, dressed as a clown with pink hair for a dream involving a circus, but then dressed as Jane from "Tarazan" for a different scene in the same dream), as well as to traverse easily between mediums. It was supposed to end there, but Paprika decided she wanted more in life. After undergoing treatement to give Paprika a permanent body (since Paprika would often take over Atsuko's while on duty), paperwork was put in to transfer the eighteeen year old to Posiedon, where she could study psychology and dreams on her own time and at her own pace. After meeting with Professor Mulder and doing a run with the DC-Mini, Paprika agreed to become his informant and try to provide him with as much information as possible during her dream sweeps. Eventually, she explained how her job worked and the side-effects to her boyfriend, Light Yagami. The two of them occasionally go on sweeps together, which has lead to a few instances of carry over showing up. With the most recent upgrades to the DC-Minis and hardware, the sweeps have become much more interactive, which has helped her wih keeping the data straight, but the carry over has intensified noteably. If this recent advancement in the DC Project will be a positive or a negative will only be told by time. After being kidnapped by Alex Krycek for the DC-Mini (as well as what she knew about it), Paprika was rescued by Light, Raven, and Professor Mulder. With a few more under the hood upgrades to the DC-Mini in place, she's continued her work both as an informant, and as a normal college student. She also explained the DC Project (as the entire thing is sometimes known as) to Light and Professor Scully. Both have gone with her on campus runs, without too many problems. Recently (May 2k8), Paprika discovered that the DC-Mini can be used as a sort of time machine based on what photograph or image is used as a source (through using history books and photos taken with her camera). She also learned that the DC-Mini can act as a gateway into films, much to Light's interest. After heading into Batman Begins with Professors Mulder and Scully, Paprika secured copies of The Gotham Times to prove that they had been there. She and Light have been ocasionallly experimenting by heading through different movies and seeing what can be changed while they're in that specific universe. Paprika also recieved a package from something called Wake Up Retrograde, which included among the items an encrypted disc, containing information on implanting cyborg personalities into a shell. Needing help, she contacted Professor Mulder, who in turn contacted The Lone Gunmen- after helping them analyze the disc, Paprika learned that people from a past case of Mulder's (or the AI itself) may be studying how to implant personalities into humans, with cyborgs as their starting point. After some investigation by The Lone Gunmen, Professor Mulder and herself, as well as her journal being hacked by an AI calling itself "Alice", Paprika and Mulder located Invisigoth at an abandoned church in town. Having a chat with Alice, they all learned that the hacker group "44" were offshoots of the AI, designed to keep her busy while she collected information about the various conspiracies, including several X-Files. After admitting that she didn't know anything current about the wherabouts of Mulder's sister, Alice asked that she be destroyed; as she posed too much of a security risk, even if she headed back into the internet. Invisigoth obliged, rigging a satelite to destroy both the building and then computer Alice was occupying before she vanished. As of now (June 2K8), things seem to have gone back to normal. Paprika's also gotten closer to Light, the two of them having shared a kiss at the school's masquerade.
